Always Bet on Black: The return from Mexico

I was so ashamed of my betting results in the last few articles that I made a break for Mexico, looking for a quiet place to reflect on my abject failure and misery (also to spend my winnings as I’ve been betting on the opposite teams from those on my coupons). But these shady dealings have a way of catching up with you and after seeing that Mexico is no longer a safe haven for petty criminals, fraudsters and in some people’s minds, “heroes”, I have decided to return to face my criticism and make amends. This is entirely my choice and has NOTHING to do with the bounty put on my head by Punters Anonymous.

What a week to come back to, it’s Scottish Cup week! A lottery in which results can go either way, with only one certainty which is Partick Thistle getting pumped before the Quarter Final. I’ve decided to go for four results which I think definitely have a chance of coming in and I’ve picked the one game where I think we’ll get an upset to boost the odds. Have a look below for this week’s coupon.

Alloa v Hibs. Hibs to win – 8/11

Hibs are playing better football than they were at the start of the season and are looking for their sixth consecutive away win. They will be desperate (as they are every year) to end their Scottish Cup jinx and I can see the Hibs players getting a victory here.

St Johnstone v Ross County. St Johnstone to win – 10/11

Two rubbish teams playing rubbish football in an underwhelming cup tie. Overall, St Johnstone are slightly less bad than County and they have history on their side, winning 1-0 in the sides only previous Scottish cup match in 2008. The price here justifies the inclusion.

Motherwell v Dundee United. Dundee United win – 1/1

Motherwell are enduring one of their toughest runs in the last few seasons, having lost six of their last seven matches. The Scottish Cup will be a welcome reprieve from league duties but I can’t see Motherwell beating this decent Dundee United team and a price of even money for United is too good to turn down.

Dundee v Aberdeen. Aberdeen win – 6/5

Aberdeen really seem to have had a hold over Dundee in recent years, they are unbeaten in six matches winning five in the process. Both teams are having a reasonable season and this game could go either way. I think Aberdeen will be the stronger of the two and should get a result.

Spartans v Morton. Spartans win – 11/2

This is our big cup upset! Morton are flying high at the moment in League One and promotion will be their top priority, meaning they might take their eye off the ball for this one. Spartans on the other hand will be looking to make an impact in this season’s Scottish Cup and I’m sure their fans will provide a really intimidating atmosphere. The clubs have met already this season with Morton winning 1-0 at Cappielow. This is a bit of a gamble but I think it’s our best bet for a Cup shock.
