Bringing Hooper back to Celtic would be ‘magic’ says Kris Commons

Celtic’s Player of the Year Kris Commons hopes that the Premiership champions could re-sign former striker Gary Hooper, saying that it wouldn’t be ‘totally unrealistic’.

The 30 year old, who netted 30 times this season, said: “In an ideal world I would like to get Hoops back. I had a very strong relationship with him [Commons] on the park. He is one of the best players I have ever performed alongside.

“I don’t think it is totally unrealistic that we could get him back one day. Obviously, Lionel Messi would be perfect but I would like us to bring back Hoops. It would be magic to have him in our side again. Look at the amount of goals he scored. In addition, his movement and link-up play were second to none. He’s a top player and that’s why he went to the Premier League.

“I’ve been lucky enough to play with a lot of superb players and Hoops is up there with the best. It would be great if he returned.”

The English striker quit Celtic last summer as he looked to bolster his chances of an England call-up along with a fresh challenge. But with just one season under his belt, Hooper’s Norwich City side are odds on to be relegated to the Championship, as they need a win against Arsenal to have any hope of staying up.

Hooper spent three seasons at Celtic Park, scoring 82 goals in 137 appearances over three seasons. This season, he has hit the back of the net just eight times in 33 appearances for the Canarys.
