Who are the most efficient goal scorers in the Scottish Premiership?

In his debut piece, StatMatt takes a look at the most efficient goalscorers in the SPFL Premiership.

From this graph you can see that there is a clear gap between the top five goal scorers and the rest of the league, but are these five the most efficient?

Almost, I have listed below the top five most efficient goal scorers in the Scottish Premiership, in my opinion.

5th – Lyle Taylor

Having only joined Partick Thistle on loan from Sheffield United on 30th December 2013, Taylor just beats John Sutton to fifth spot despite scoring only five goals compared to Sutton’s 14.

Taylor is averaging a goal every 146.4 minutes making him the fifth most efficient goal scorer in the Scottish Premiership and definitely one to watch for the rest of the season.

4th – Kris Boyd

Having scored 15 goals this season, age does not seem to have hindered the 33 year old’s performances and Kilmarnock look to have signed a player who is almost as in form as the Kris Boyd they sold to Rangers on 1st January 2006.

Boyd is averaging a goal every 143.5 minutes this season. The man with the record for of most goals in SPL history doesn’t look like he’s slowing down just yet.

3rd – Billy McKay

McKay has scored the same amount of goals as Kris Boyd but has played 35 minutes less than him this season. The gap between third and fourth couldn’t be much closer!

McKay is averaging a goal every 141.8 minutes and has scored 50% of Inverness’ league goals this season.

2nd – Stevie May

Having spent the last two seasons on loan at Alloa Athletic & Hamilton Academical respectively May looks to have benefited from the first team experience nothing up 16 goals this season.

May is averaging a goal every 131.2 minutes, the 21-year-old is just one of two players in the league who you can expect to score two goals every three games.

1st – Kris Commons

Not only has Commons scored the most this season but he has also spent the least time playing with the exception of Lyle Taylor. He has already surpassed the amount of goals he scored last season and is one of, if not the most in form player in the league this year.

Commons is averaging a goal every 108.1 minutes. If he was to play every minute possible from now until the end of the season, we should expect to see him finishing on around 27 goals.
