SPFL & Ramsdens Cup semi final midweek preview – Tuesday 29th October 2013

Raith Rovers v Livingston

As new investors have appeared to ease the issues at Livingston, their progress in the league will be measured this evening through an away fixture at Kirkcaldy. Both teams won at the weekend though for Raith it was at the expense of David McGurn now out for 5/6 weeks and undergoing surgery due to an Achilles tendon injury. Ross Laidlaw will step up again and Dougie Hill will also be available though he will have to fight Paul Watson for the shirt. Livingston meanwhile have Mike Mumpaya out as well as Ross Docherty; doubts remain over Kyle Wilkie. This ought to be a very good tie. I have seen both this season and both like to get the ball down and play football. In terms of predictions it will be an away win for me as the loss of McGurn cannot be underestimated.

Stenhousemuir v Rangers

Last time they met it was also on TV; but it will not be stored safely for many Warriors to keep viewing it! This time they are on BBC Alba and they will be hoping it doesn’t end up 8-0 to Rangers. It’s a change of venue too as it is at Ochilview and should be a different atmosphere to the cauldron at Ibrox. It ought to make a big difference. Stenhousemuir are without John Gemmell though they do add in Ross McMillan and David Rowson. For Ally McCoist Dean Sheils, Ross Perry and Chris Hegarty are all absent. Rangers know this is a cup worth winning and they will be on their guard against complacency and all it entails. I expect an away win and the final shall be Raith Rovers v Rangers!

It could all change tonight as there are 3 league 2 ties and an infinite number of possibilities over what the table will look like afterwards. The one worth keeping an eye on is Annan Athletic v East Stirlingshire. Annan won 3-2 at Elgin at the weekend and will fancy a wee run here. They will have to do it without Steven Black and Steven Logan but if they do they go top. East Stirlingshire have a long list of absentees including Nathan Shepherd, Paul Quinn, Jamie Glasgow, Max Wright and David Greenhill. With the visitors having lost to Montrose at the weekend it looks like advantage Annan and I think that may be highly significant.

Elsewhere Montrose v Queen’s Park has a home side that beat the league leaders on Saturday playing an away side that cannot buy a win! Stuart Garden has no Gareth Rodger, Lloyd Young or Alan Campbell whilst Gardner Speirs has Grant Mosson and James Baty missing. I am afraid I reckon it will be home win number 2 of the evening. Stirling Albion v Albion Rovers has two battling sides looking for some comfort as the Binos lost to Clyde whilst the wee Rovers needed a late equaliser to draw with bottom club Queen’s Park last weekend. Ryan Tiffoney may appear for the Coatbridge side whilst Kevin Nicoll, Pat Walker, Darren Miller and Peter Innes are out and Chris Dallas is available. The Binos will have no Ross Forsyth, Kieran McAnespie or David Weatherson. Tough one to decide which Albion will come out on top so I can safely predict that Albion shall win! (Bet they draw now!)
