Glasgow City defeated Highland opponents Buchan Ladies 7-0 to secure all three points and to make it seven wins out of seven games in the league this season as they continue to lead the SWPL table.

Three first half goals from Lisa Robertson, Ruesha Littlejohn and Suzanne Lappin, put the reigning champions firmly in the driving seat, before second half strikes from Sarah Crilly, Suzanne Malone and a brace from Leanne Ross, ensured the win for Eddie Wolecki Black’s side.

Commenting on the match, Black said: “I am delighted with a clean sheet, our fourth in a row, so we are obviously getting back to a bit of stability and consistency. Another pleasing aspect was to score seven goals with six different goalscorers, which again shows we are not dependant on one player to score the goals for us.

“We were also able to turn around the squad from Thursday’s match and utilise the full depth of the team and I felt we passed the ball very well today at times and caused the opposition lots of problems. Now we build up to what is a top of table clash next week against Hibs.”

City started the game on the front foot and it didn’t take long before getting their noses in front. An excellent City move, released Jo Love into the penalty box only for the Scotland international to be brought down by Rebecca Flaherty in the Buchan goals. The ref pointed to the spot, Flaherty was shown a yellow card and up stepped Lisa Robertson to finish from 12 yards.

Unfortunately, it was to be Love’s last action in the match as it proved too heavy a knock to shake off and she was replaced by Leanne Ross.

On 14 minutes, City doubled their lead as Ruesha Littlejohn fired home off the underside of the cross-bar and a great header from Suzanne Lappin after a Leanne Ross corner put City 3-0 up after 33 minutes.

After the break, Littlejohn, Suzanne Malone and Ross all went close in the first few minutes before Malone added number four from six yards as she got on the end of a Ross pass. It was soon 5-0 after a great goal from Leanne Ross finished off a fine City move.

Ross was on target again on 55 minutes after another excellent Glasgow City move involving Littlejohn, to finish into the bottom corner with a well-placed left foot strike. Five minutes later and Sarah Crilly scored her first of the match and her side’s seventh as she shot past Flaherty home from distance.

Glasgow City’s next match is away to second placed Hibernian on Sunday 19th May at Albyn Park, Broxburn. Kick off 2pm. With both teams proudly boasting a 100% record in the SWPL so far, it is sure to be a cracker.
