irnbru-sflRangers went to Hampden last weekend and routed the owner, when by all accounts over the last few weeks they probably wanted to do the same to a few of their tenants. A 4-1 away win against the 2nd placed side would normally be seen as irrefutable evidence of how far ahead the champions were but these are different times to what we normally expect. Midweek Gardner Speir’s charges were then down at Annan and beaten there 2-0! Peterhead meanwhile got into 3rd with their own rout – a 6-0 demolition of East Stirlingshire. Montrose had slipped with a 2-2 draw with Stirling Albion meaning they slid to 4th. 5th spot has Berwick Rangers lurking, 3 points behind Montrose but time is running out for them. Their loss at Clyde shows how precarious their situation currently is. Elgin City and Annan Athletic drew their day together, sharing another 4 goals meaning Elgin continue to fade as the bottom club East Stirlingshire are looking up at everyone else… once again.

Game of the day for me is Berwick Rangers v Queens Park. The Borderers lost 2-1 last weekend at Clydewith Steve Notman equalising before a late winner took all the points away from them. Queen’s Park lost 4-1 at home to champions Rangers with Lawrence Shankland getting an 87th minute consolation. Midweek the Spiders slumped again as they lost 2-0 down at Annan. I think this has all the hallmarks of a decent encounter if they can both raise their game and I am going for a slim away win.

Rangers v Clyde has the champions now on a mini victory lap of the Third Division after having gone to Hampden and won 4-1 with goals from Kane Hemming, Fraser Aird and a David Templeton double. Clyde won at home last weekend thanks to a John Sweeney 86th minute strike that was added to Kevin Watt’s earlier goal to make it 2-1. My Ibrox mole has finally awoken from his slumber to tell me that off field distractions are unlikely to make a difference here and the Rangers bandwagon will roll on till the end of season beating everyone in front of them. Stirling Albion v Peterhead has a Stirling side enjoying life a wee bit more than they had been doing. They drew 2-2 last weekend thanks to goals from Mark Ferry and Joshua Flood up at Montrose. Peterhead put 6 past East Stirlingshire with doubles from Rory McAlister and James Redman added to Martin Bavidge and Dean Cowie strikes. An away win looks the most likely and the Blue Toon to be sitting in the play offs comfortable soon.

Elgin City v Montrose sees two sides that last week drew. Both were with 4 goals apiece though and that should be a decent warning there could be goals in this game. Elgin were 2 apiece with Annan Athletic thanks to Gavin Morrison and Dennis Wyness. All their goals were in were in the last 13 minutes of the game! Montrose drew 2-2 with the Binos thanks to Martin Boyle and Richard McIntosh. Now I have said there will be goals bet you it’s a 0-0 draw… Finally East Stirlingshire v Annan Athletic  has a side that was beaten 6-0 last weekend play host to one that drew 2-2 with Elgin on Saturday thanks to goals from Ian Chisholm and David Hopkirk before Hopkirk and Scott Chaplain took all 3 points for them at home to Queen’s Park midweek. It was Jim Chapman’s first home win. From that boost should come enough to make this a fairly simple win today away at Ochilview.
