Partick Thistle duo Chris Erskine and Paul Paton have signed pre-contract agreements to join up with former Jags manager Jackie McNamara at Dundee United next season.
The Tannadice side are set to lose Irish duo Willo Flood and Jon Daly when their contracts expire at the end of the season and Jackie McNamara has wasted no time in finding replacements for the two, as he looks to put his own mark on the squad he inherited from Peter Houston.
Speaking after last night’s 0-0 draw with Raith Rovers, Jags manager Alan Archibald said: “We wish them all the best, that’s football that’s what happens. They’ve been great servants to the club.
“I think they’ve been here nearly touching on five years and they’ve been outstanding for us. We’ll need to see what’s out there and try and replace them. As I said they’ve been mainstays in the team for four or five years so they’ll be hard ones to replace.
“They know the manager and the manager knows them and trusts them. So hopefully they do well.”
Dundee United announced the signing of the duo on their official website, the statement read: “Dundee United today confirmed that it had agreed pre-contract terms with Paul Paton and Chris Erskine, who will both join the Club in summer 2013 following the expiry of their existing contracts with Partick Thistle.”
Both players have been pivotal to the Jags’ First Division title campaign and will be sorely missed when the club moves up to the SPL next season.
Paton has played 30 times for Thistle this season without scoring and Erskine has played 27 times for Thistle and scored 12 goals.
Meanwhile, Thistle have announced that keeper Scott Fox has signed a new two-year deal with the Firhill side.
