SFL DIVISION THREE PREVIEW – SATURDAY 30TH MARCH

irnbru-sflIf there is one prayer being lifted to the Almighty this weekend could it be that Rangers FINALLY win the bleeding title!? I swear to any deity available and listening that we finally see something that resembles a victory parade at Ibrox and be done with it. Them all the pundits can get onto another topic… Last weekend Rangers were rank rotten against Stirling Albion and deserved the boos and the draw. Stirling Albion snuffed them out – AGAIN – and deserved their single point. There were only 2 other games that survived the snow and we saw Peterhead win away at Berwick Rangers and creep closer to that coveted 4th spot, Montrose kept their distance by despatching East Stirlingshire and it now looks like Queen’s Park will be in the play offs. The other 2 spots will be between a chasing pack including Montrose, Peterhead and Berwick Rangers. Elgin City look to have blown it whilst Annan Athletic, Clyde, East Stirlingshire and Stirling Albion are trying to avoid coming in last spot!

The Game of the Day ought to be a Championship party as Montrose v Rangers has 2 teams at the top of the table clashing in a mismatched game that ought to see 1 team winning the league. Montrose did win away last weekend at East Stirlingshire, Paul Watson with a late dramatic winner – his second in the game – getting 3 points and Montrose staying in 3rd spot. Rangers drew 0-0 at home to the Binos. They may have had 8 players missing but with terraces emptying hurriedly it may be more than players missing soon. My Ibrox mole has gone to ground but I am sure that we shall see an away win this weekend and an end to the league championship battle. It will, however need Elgin City to do them a favour…

Queen’s Park v Elgin City has 2 teams idle over the last 13 days. Previous form would suggest a simple home win but these ties can rarely be simple. For Rangers to clinch the title it would need The Spiders to drop points and I do think Elgin are capable of doing that for them. A draw would suffice… Stirling Albion v Berwick Rangers may seem like a bit of a come down after the excitement of Ibrox last weekend but this is something all the other 9 Division three teams have faced this season. The Binos have thwarted Rangers 3 times this season but their form in other games have not been that good. Berwick lost 2-0 last Saturday at home to Peterhead and whilst they are sitting in 4th now need to keep that spot by winning games. They couldn’t take advantage of chances in their first half performance last weekend and they will want to continue the form they showed in the second half! Will they? Up against the Binos is likely to make it easier for them though this is a toughy.

Peterhead v Annan Athletic has the Blue Toon back on track having beat Berwick 2-0 last weekend thanks to goals from Ryan McCann and Rory McAllister. Annan had their game postponed so should be fresh for this. I reckon the Blue Toon are on a roll and will go for a home win to keep the pressure on Montrose and Berwick Rangers. Finally Clyde v East Stirlingshire is a basement clash that follows Clyde contemplating a move away from the Broadwood Motor Home Stadium or whatever it is called these days. This could be East Stirlingshire attempting to get their run back on as they lost last time out 2-1 at home to Montrose after a wee run that was highly impressive – apart from their 9-1 loss to Stirling! Maxwell Wright got their equaliser before they lost in the 92nd minute. New faces will appear for both teams and therefore a prediction would probably be wild in any case. Let’s therefore go for a home win!
