Former Hibs striker O’Connor charged with drugs

1

Former Hibernian striker Garry O’Connor has been charged in connection with alleged drug offences, hours after he attended Hibs 1-0 victory over Hearts at Easter Road in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.

The 29-year-old FC Tom Tomsk striker was reportedly arrested by police near Edinburgh’s Playhouse theatre.

A statement from Lothian and Borders Police said: “A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection with alleged drugs offences. He is due to appear at court at a later date.”

The latest arrest comes six months after the player was found guilty of possessing cocaine and obstructing police back in May 2011, after he was caught snorting drugs on the back seat of a car.

O’Connor moved to Russian second division outfit FC Tom Tomsk in July 2012, only playing his first game in August and lasting just 65 minutes into his debut before he was sent off.

His previous clubs include Lokomotiv Moscow, Birmingham City and Barnsley.
