Scottish Football Weekend Betting Preview #Gameon

Celtic v Dundee

Celtic play host to Dundee at Celtic Park, looking to get back to winning ways in the league after last week’s surprise defeat to St.Johnstone at McDiarmid Park. After their midweek exertions in the Champions League against Benfica, the game is set to be rather lacklustre in the first half and nervy affair for Celtic against the SPL new boys.

Despite what I expect to be a poor first half, the Celtic players would have been read the riot act after last week’s unacceptable defeat and will see this game out with all three points secured.

Ladbrokes are offering odds of 1/5 for Celtic to win the game and that is where I am putting my money this weekend. If you like to live dangerously and think that Celtic will have another European headache, Dundee are at 12/1 to win the game. However, the bets must be in patent form. As these allow to achieve a slightly larger reward from short odds. If you’re not sure how it works, well, you have to learn more about patent betting and see which is one of the best ways to try – given that Dundee have not beaten Celtic since 1st January 1989 I cannot see that bet coming in. 11/2 might be a good bet to put down if you have a spare pound or two, but Celtic should win this game with little trouble – even after their euro hangover.

Score prediction: Celtic 3-0 Dundee
First goalscorer: Gary Hooper

Hibernian v Inverness Caley Thistle

Hibs have been in fine form this season, already holding Celtic to a 2-2 draw at home and last weekend beating Kilmarnock 2-1, despite Kenny Shiels’ claims that Paul Cairney dived to win a penalty for Pat Fenlon’s side.

Inverness have been hit hard with a new influx of players along with the departure of Johnny Hayes to Aberdeen, recent performances are certain nothing to write home about and later this afternoon I fully expect them to head back north after being soundly beaten by the Hibees.

At odds of evens, Ladbrokes are tagging Hibs as favourites to win the match and I cannot see anything other scoreline. Inverness are 11/4 to take all three points and odds of 12/4 for the game to end a draw. However your money is safe by placing it all on Hibs – they helped me out last weekend with a nice tidy £29 return.

Score prediction: Hibernian 2-0 Inveress Caley Thistle
First goalscorer: Leigh Griffiths

Kilmarnock v St.Mirren

Despite Killie succumbing to what they perceived was a dive from Paul Cairney last weekend, they face a St.Mirren side that downed Hearts in Paisley 2-0 last weekend.

It will be a tough test for both sides and I can see a draw being the end result for this game, but I do have a gut feeling that the visitors will come away with the points.

Ladbrokes are tipping St.Mirren to win for 19/10 odds, while the draw is 9/4. For Killie to win the odds are 7/5.

Score prediction: Kilmarnock 1-3 St.Mirren
First goalscorer: Steven Thompson

Ross County v St.Johnstone

On the back of their win against Celtic, St.Johnstone travel north to Dingwall to face Ross County – a side that is unbeaten in 40 games. No mean feat by any stretch of the imagination.

Will their run continue? I expect it to continue, as Dingwall is a hard place to come away with anything.

So with that in mind, Ladbrokes are offering odds of 13/10 odd on Ross County to secure a win, while the visitors are 21/10 to win the game. But despite their unbeaten run, I cannot see past a draw today and will take odds of 9/4.

Score prediction: Ross County 1-1 St.Johnstone
First goalscorer: Rowan Vine

Dundee United v Hearts

Both teams saw dropped points galore. United hit a brick wall in the guise of Ross County last Friday night as they drew 0-0 at Tannadice, while Hearts travelled to Paisley and they returned along the M8 without a point, following their 2-0 defeat to St.Mirren.

Again both teams will be looking to bounce back, but I cannot see Hearts getting anything again – despite them being paid finally – and United will secure all three points with odds of evens. Hearts were 14/5 to win the game, while the draw is at 23/10.

Score prediction: Dundee United 2-1 Hearts
First goalscorer: Johnny Russell

Aberdeen v Motherwell

League leaders Motherwell travel north to Aberdeen to face an emotional Craig Brown, hoping to keep their place at the top of the table. Aberdeen had to settle for a point against Caley Thistle last weekend, while Motherwell secured a 2-1 win away to Dundee.

Today’s game will see Motherwell come away with the win in my opinion. Ladbrokes are offering odds of 2/1 for that to happen, while Aberdeen have been given 11/8 odds to pick up all three points and the draw is 11/5.

Score prediction: Aberdeen 1-3 Motherwell
First goalscorer: Michael Higdon

And for a wee extra side bet…. why not take a punt on First Division league leaders Partick Thistle. Five wins from five games already this season, Thistle host fourth placed Cowdenbeath at Firhll. It will be an exciting encounter, but I fully expect Jackie McNamara’s side to continue their winning ways.

Ladbrokes are of the same opinion, with odds of 1/2 for Thistle to secure all three points, while the Blue Brazil are 9/2 to win. The draw is at 16/5.

Score prediction: Partick Thistle 2-0 Cowdenbeath
First goalscorer: Chris Erskine
