Only one other player – Suzanne Lappin – has ever scored more in City colours, but to make Leanne’s achievement all the more astonishing, she has done it in fewer games. Having started 136 games for Glasgow City since her move from Newburgh 5 years, Leanne has averaged more than one goal a match. A fantastic return for any striker, but considering Leanne is a midfielder, makes this achievement all the more incredible.
Few would argue that Leanne has achieved the greatest successes of her career in a City strip, with five League titles, two Scottish Cups, three League Cups and 19 starts in the Champions League, including a last 16 berth in 2011. However, with her goal ratio it is also plain to see how important she has been in helping City achieve its honours.
Commenting on Leanne, Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black said: “At Glasgow City I have been privileged to coach some of the best players this country has produced. We have had great defenders, superb midfielders and brilliant strikers in my time, however in my opinion, Leanne has to be up there as one of the greatest goalscorers this country has ever seen.
“Her record is incredible, I know people will dispute the fact that she maybe gets a lot of chances created for her, but if goal scoring was that easy every game would be 10-9. Leanne makes scoring goals look easy, she times her runs superbly and is as cold as ice in the box, that is the knack of a finisher. The club stats show she also creates opportunities for her team mates, the biggest recipient being Lisa Evans. I hope she goes on to score and create a lot more goals for us over the coming seasons.”[media-credit name=”© Phil McCloy” align=”alignleft” width=”300″][/media-credit]
