His record speaks for itself with the exception of the Liverpool job, although you could argue that this year even that would be better than Kenny’s!
- Played for Gravesend & Northfleet, Maidstone and South African side Berea Park
- Started managerial career at Swedish side Halmstad in 1976
- Has managed in Sweden, England, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark and Norway
- Managed Inter Milan during two spells in the 1990s
- Coached Switzerland at 1994 World Cup, was in charge of UAE from 2002 to 2004 and Finland between 2005 and 2007
- Managed Blackburn, Fulham and Liverpool in the Premier League and moved to West Brom in February 2011
When he was at Fulham he not only guided them to 7th in the Premier League, their highest finish, he also took them on a fantastic European journey which saw them have a stunning second-leg comeback against Juventus in the Europa League quarter-finals on the way to losing 2-1 against Atletico Madrid in extra-time in the final in Hamburg.
It was a journey that no Fulham fan will ever forget.
So why the negative and distasteful headlines? I’ll tell you why because it’s in their nature as a “newspaper” to focus on the negatives rather than the positives with everything, the paper has previous with England manager’s in particular slagging off Sven- Goran Eriksson, Steve McLaren, Graham Taylor, Glenn Hoddle, Fabio Capello for various reasons as well as publishing stories about Liverpool fans at the Hillsborough disaster, which has seen the paper boycotted on Merseyside.
The front paper of today’s Sun (The English version) was nothing short of disgraceful and disrespectful to Roy Hodgson and for many people around the world with a speech impediment.
Many fans who have bought the paper have already called the FA to complain about the nature of the headline and mocking of Roy Hodgson.
The FA have acted swiftly by issuing the following statement:“We are delighted at the media response to Roy’s appointment but are disappointed with the headline in The Sun, which we consider is in poor taste and disrespectful.”
“The FA and the Press Complaints Commission (PCC) have today received a large number of objections relating to the front page headline in The Sun newspaper, regarding Roy Hodgson’s manner of speech.”
“On this occasion, we will not be making an official complaint to the PCC but we have raised it with the newspaper and made it clear that their front page is unacceptable to us.”
The English FA and Roy Hodgson should have nothing further to do with the paper after this latest headline as it proves that they just do not care no matter the situation, they have proved time and time again they know no shame and have no heart!
We have seen it time and time again with Newspapers and it has to stop! Today the England manager, tomorrow some little 5 year old kid at school.
