Scotland Women beaten 5-1 by 2011 Cyprus Cup champions Canada


Canada who are three times Cyprus Cup champions and current reigning champions opened the scoring on six minutes with a long range strike from Kelly Parker.

However Scotland equalised when Jane Ross fired home a rebound after Stephanie Labbe failed to hold onto a shot.

On 36 minutes, Stephanie Schmidt gave the Canadians the lead once more. Schmidt extended the lead, before Christine Sinclair and Melissa Tancredi in the second half to seal all three points with a 5-1 win.

Scotland play second placed Holland, last year’s defeated finalists, tomorrow afternoon before playing their last group game of the competition against Italy on Sunday as they look to keep their hopes of progression alive.

Group A

France 3-0 Switzerland
England 3-1 Finland

Favorites England and France both won their first games of the competition comfortably. Finland took the lead against England but two Kelly Smith penalties and a Karen Carney goal ensured the three points went England’s way. France scored all three of their goals in the first half and then used the second half to give six of their substitutes a run out against Switzerland.

Group B

Netherlands 2-1 Italy
Canada 5-1 Scotland

Italy took the lead through Panico, but Netherlands came back in the second half with goals from Melis and Martens.

Group C

South Korea 2-1 South Africa
New Zealand 2-0 Northen Ireland
