According to reports in the media this afternoon, UEFA are drawing up provisional plans in case Swiss side FC Sion are reinstated into the Europa League, but Celtic will not be expelled,
It is reported that a five-team group, with Sion added to Group I appears the likely scenario if CAS rules in Sion’s favour.
Despite Sion beating Celtic 3-1 on aggregate in August, Sion were kicked out of the competition after being found guilty of fielding ineligible players. An appeal to UEFA was rejected, despite the Swiss side going through the Swiss courts.
Celtic replaced Sion and have already played against Atletico Madrid and Udinese, picking up one point.
Neil Lennon’s side could see his side play a further two European games to play not the best news when facing a ten point deficit in the league against arch rivals Rangers. The likes of Atletico Madrid, Rennes and Udinese won’t be best pleased either.
