Kyle Bartley returns to Ibrox on a Season-long loan

Rangers have returned to North London to re-sign Arsenal youngster Kyle Bartley on a season-long loan deal, a day after the Englishman signed a new deal with Arsene Wenger’s side.

Bartley spent the second half of last season on loan at Rangers, scoring his first senior goal against St.Mirren, however his season was cut short with a serious knee injury against PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League and he returned to parent club Arsenal.

He will arrive at Murray Park on Friday to finalise the paperwork, and could face Chelsea on Saturday in Rangers’ glamour pre-season friendly at Ibrox.

Bartley had been a transfer target for Rangers ever since he returned to Arsenal after his loan spell ended, and will become Rangers’ fourth signing of the summer – their third defensive signing joining Romanian Dorin Goian and former Hearts full back Lee Wallace at Ibrox.

With veteran defender David Weir out injured and Madjid Bougherra linked with an imminent move away from Glasgow, Rangers needed to strengthen their defensive options.

Rangers manager Ally McCoist moved quickly to strengthen his side after they crashed out of the Champions League qualifying stage to Swedish side Malmo on Wednesday night.
