Rangers have signed midfielder Steven Davis up to a new five-year deal, keeping him at Ibrox until the summer of 2016. The Northern Irishman was boosted by the club signing Allan McGregor and Steven Whittaker on similar deals.
Davis told the official Rangers website: “I’m delighted to get the deal signed and sealed and obviously I’m happy to commit my future to the club in the long-term. Hopefully we can keep being successful for the length of the contract. I’ve signed for a long time and hopefully I can have my best years with the club.
“It was a big boost to see Allan and Steven sign up last week as they have been a big part of the success we’ve already had in the last couple of years. It was nice for me to be able to follow in their footsteps and hopefully we can now get a few new signings in as well.
“We’ve got quite a settled team from last season and a lot of us are on long-term deals now which is important. It’s just a case of adding to our group now as it’s a wee bit thin at the moment and it will be nice to get some fresh faces on board.”
He added: “It’s an important thing for any footballer that his family is settled and that’s the case with mine. If you are happy away from football when you’re not playing, that helps you to do your job and knowing everyone else likes being here allows me to do the best I can.”
And Steven Davis marked his new deal in the best possible style by scoring two goals to secure a 2-0 win against Blackpool, who were kicking off their pre-season campaign as Rangers finalised their pre-season before the new SPL season.
