Celtic kicked off their SPL campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win over Edinburgh side Hibernian at Easter Road. Former Hibs striker Anthony Stokes opened the scoring from an acute angle on 14 minutes, after a goalkeeping blunder by Hibs’ Graham Stack. Mark Wilson saw neat one-two and goal wrongly ruled offside, when replays showed the full back was clearly on.
Into the Second Half and South Korean Ki Sung- Yueng doubled Celtic’s lead with a superb 25 yard strike on 62 minutes.
Celtic still had time to win a penalty after Izaguirre was brought down in the Hibs box by Ivan Sproule, but Gary Hooper saw his resulting penalty saved superbly by Stack, making some amends for his earlier gaffe.
All in all it was a comfortable and deserved win for the Parkhead side, they were rarely threatened by Hibs playing with a lone striker, but the pre-season rustiness is still evident more so in the strikers.
