Celtic miss out on A-League youngster

Celtic have missed out on one of the A-League’s most promising youngsters, Mustafa Amini, after the 18-year-old signed terms with Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund.

Amini has signed a four-year deal with Dortmund, but he will spend next season on loan with current club, Central Coast as part of the deal.

Central Coast chairman Peter Turnbull said: “I am pleased we have been able to secure a much improved deal for all parties, and thank Dortmund for their consideration of our requests. We now have a deal that satisfies everyone – Musti’s international future, the clubs needs and more importantly, the fans. They will now be able to see Musti play out the balance of his original contract plus the Asian Champions League group stage.”

Amini was thrilled with the deal: “Although I’m now contracted to Dortmund, I will be playing for the CC Mariners this season and I will play my best football for the club. I’m excited about the season ahead. I’m excited about the next four years. I have always wanted to play football in Europe and finally this is my chance to play in one of the best leagues in the world.”

Celtic manager Neil Lennon had confirmed last week that he was looking to run the rule over the highly rated teenager when Celtic faced Central Coast Mariners at the weekend. However Amini missed the game through injury and Celtic failed to table an offer for the Aussie midfielder as Borussia sealed the deal.
