Sasa Papac signs on for one more year at Rangers

Sasa Papac has put pen to paper on a new one year deal with Rangers this morning. It will come as a major boost to Ally McCoist who will be handed the Ibrox reins in the summer. Papac has been one of Walter Smith’s consistent performers since he took over at Ibrox for his second spell in 2007.

Papac, a signing of Paul Le Guen in 2006, arrived from Austria Vienna and is the only survivor of the Le Guen era at Ibrox.

Despite being a Central Defender, Walter Smith has utilised him as a Full Back and he has excelled in that position, and is a firm fan’s favourite.

In the space of five years the defender has won eight major honours – three SPL titles, two Scottish Cups and three League Cups – and was an integral part of the Rangers side that reached the UEFA Cup final in Manchester 2008.

Papac made his 200th appearance for the Ibrox club in the championship winning game at Rugby Park on Sunday.
