Rangers to face Chelsea in Friendly

Rangers have announced that they will take on Chelsea in a glamour friendly at Ibrox on the 6th August. Chelsea who finished second in the English Premier League behind Manchester United, will travel north for the first time since 2007.

The London side will bring the likes of Fernando Torres, John Terry, Frank Lampard, Peter Cech and Ashley Cole to Ibrox, however Carlo Ancelotti won’t be in charge as he was sacked yesterday.

Rangers will kick off the new SPL season on July 23rd, before playing an away SPL game before opting out of the third weekend of fixtures to play host to Chelsea.

Incoming Rangers manager Ally McCoist said: “We are delighted to confirm Chelsea will be heading to Ibrox in August. They are a fantastic club and their squad is packed with world class players so I have no doubt this game will capture the imagination of our supporters.”

“We enjoyed a fantastic match against them in 2007 and Ibrox was packed and I am sure the fans will turn out in huge numbers once again to watch us in action against such a high-profile English Premier League side. This game will be a great test for our players and we are all looking forward to their visit.”

Rangers last played Chelsea at Ibrox before the start of the 2007-2008 campaign, with Filip Sebo and Nacho Novo finding the net in a 2-0 win over the English outfit.
