SFL Third Division Weekend Preview


Rab Stewart previews the weekend games in the Scottish Football League Third Division, where Arbroath could clinch the Third Division League title, if Albion Rovers lose.

Berwick Rangers v Clyde

Berwick have an outside chance of making playoffs, if Queen’s Park lose and Stranraer lose, then they have an outside chance of making it with 2 games to go.

Berwick Rangers are hoping defender Chris McLeod and midfielder Paul Currie can both prove their fitness ahead of the game against Clyde. Elliot Smith, Fraser McLaren and Craig O’Reilly are still out injured.

Clyde are without Jamie McCluskey for the trip as he picked up an injury in the midweek game. Ally Park looks set to miss out with an injury. Marc McCusker is rated as very doubtful But Gavin Brown is available after suspension.

Prediction: Berwick 2-0 Clyde

Arbroath v Montrose

Arbroath can win the league if they win and Albion lose, they will be without defender Alan Rattray but player/manager Paul Sheerin is available after serving his suspension, and captain Stuart Malcolm is included after injury, the game should be a sell out against their main rivals.

Montrose welcome back defender Stephen McInally from suspension for the derby. Montrose has injury doubts over defenders Gordon Pope and Alan Campbell while Martin Boyle has already been ruled out.

Prediction: Arbroath 3-0 Montrose

Queens Park v Albion Rovers

Queens Park know a win and a loss for Stranraer would put them level on points with Stranraer with 2 games to go. Jamie Brough, Steven Baillie, David Murray, Michael O’Hara and Paul Harkins all remain out injured for the spiders.

Albion Rovers know if they lose and Arbroath win the league challenge is over. Albion Rovers will be without the banned Peter Innes for the trip. Neil McGowan, Steven Canning, Robert Love, Jamie Gilmartin and John Gemmell, but Chris Hamilton has recovered and should feature.

Prediction: Queen’s Park 1-0 Albion

Stranraer vs Annan Athletic

Stranraer know a win would keep them on track for a playoff spot. Stranraer welcome back Grant Gallagher and Michael Moore for the clash with Annan. Gallagher has shaken off a knock, while Moore has served his suspension.

Annan could clinch playoff spot if results go their way. Annan are without John MacBeth and Graeme Bell.

Prediction: Stranraer 1-2 Annan
