Celtic target former Boro defender Riggott

Celtic are considering a swoop for former Middlesborough defender Chris Riggott to help their injury worries, with Daniel Majstorovic out for up to 8 weeks after breaking a toe on his right foot.

With only Charlie Mulgrew, Thomas Rogne and Glenn Loovens, the only fit central defenders at the club, Neil Lennon could make a move for the former Cardiff City defender, who left the Welsh side in January on a free transfer.

However with his previous injury worries and a long lay-off with no match practice, Riggott will have to prove his fitness. Since January he has been training with Derby and his experience could prove invaluable in the title run-in.

Riggott’s has played over 200 games in the English top flight, and helped Boro to the 2006 UEFA Cup Final losing to Sevilla.

He rejected a deal to stay at The Riverside with former Celtic manager Gordon Strachan for a new challenge at Cardiff, but his one year deal was cancelled in January after brief appearances for the Bluebirds, with his time at the Welsh side curtailed by a Hamstring injury.
