SPL Weekend Round-up: Rangers demolish Motherwell

Rangers closed the gap on rivals Celtic to just two points with a 6-0 demolition of Stuart McCall’s Motherwell side.

Scotland international Steven Naismith opened the scoring for the Ibrox side after five minutes, before Nikica Jelavic finally lived up to the hype by scoring a hat trick.

It went bad to worse for Motherwell as Shaun Hutchison fired into his own net before David Healy, making his debut for Rangers, finished off the scoring.

Meanwhile Hearts stayed on course to secure third spot and continued to put pressure on the Old Firm as two goals from Stephen Elliott handed Hearts a 2-0 win over struggling Hamilton Accies.

Hibernian continued their winning ways with a 2-1 win over Kilmarnock at Easter Road. Akpo Sodje gave the Hibees the lead in the second half before a penalty from Victor Palsson gave Colin Calderwood’s side a 2-0 lead. Hibs had to see the remainder of the match out with ten men after Francis Dickoh was sent off. Killie pulled a goal back through Jamie Hamill, setting up a tense finish however Killie could not find that equalising goal and Hibs secured another important victory and a valuable three points.

League leaders Celtic travel to Tannadice to take on Dundee United as they look to extend their lead at the top to five points.

Meanwhile the game between St.Johnstone and Aberdeen was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch after heady rain battered McDiarmid Park.
