The SPL have announced that Season 2011/12 will kick off on Saturday 23rd July 2011. The earlier start date is part of the SPL’s strategic plan for Scottish Football, to help clubs involved in European qualifiers better prepare for those games. It has been revealed today that Hamilton Accies player Simon Mensing failed a drugs test back in December 29th 2010 and served a ban from 29th January to 26th February this year. On this site earlier today, @scotzine highlighted some TV coverage regarding Rangers fans while in Lisbon, as their side face Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League. I am guessing that the papers on Sunday or Monday will have one or two articles about this. As of Saturday evening I am aware of only one blog piece, by an English paper.
