Rangers snap up Algerian midfielder Kerkar until end of the season

Rangers have signed Algerian midfielder Salim Kerkar, until the end of the season after impressing while on trial at Murray Park.

Kerkar can play on the left side of midfielder and has spent a number of weeks at Murray Park, training with the first team and taking part in a number of closed doors games while the details of the deal were being thrashed out. He will now link up with fellow Algerian Madjid Bougherra, subject to international clearance.

Kerkar has spent the last three seasons in French Football with Guegnon, playing 49 games scoring 3 times, and Calais, playing 36 times and scoring 6 goals.

The deal to sign Kerkar nearly fell through a number of weeks ago, when his old club FC Gueugnon demanded around €360,000 in compensation. Negotiations continued and the French outfit changed their demands and opted for a sell on clause.

He has impressed assistant Ally McCoist during his time at the club, “He is a lad who is shaping up well. He is a nice lad but more importantly he has a good left foot.”
