Ex SPL star set for MLS showpiece

Former Aberdeen and Celtic midfielder Jamie Smith is set to play in this season’s MLS cup final after his Colorado Rapids side defeated The San Jose Earthquakes 1-0, with a first half goal from right back Kosuke Kimura just before half time in the Eastern Conference final.

Smith was not involved in tonight’s game due to injury but played a big part in the first round two-legged play-off game in which Colorado defeated 2008 champions Columbus Crew, who have Scotsman Adam Moffat in their ranks, Ross County and Elgin City fans may remember him.

Major League Soccer and the MLS Cup were formed in 1996 as part of the agreement between the US Soccer Federation and FIFA when the USA were chosen to host the 1994 World Cup

Jamie Smith and co can look forward to playing FC Dallas or David Beckham’s LA Galaxy in the final which takes place at BMO Field in Toronto Canada on November 21st at 8:30pm ET.
